ON Semiconductor and Würth Elektronik announced that Würth Elektronik's passive component database has been integrated into ON Semiconductor's unique PLECS® Self-Service Model Generation Tool (SSPMG). SSPMG is a web-based platform with an intuitive and easy-to-use interface that helps engineers customize high-precision, high-fidelity PLECS models for complex power electronics applications, thereby discovering and fixing performance bottlenecks in the design process as early as possible. The integration of Würth Elektronik's passive system components further improves the accuracy of the switching loss model in SSPMG.
The industry's typical PLECS models rely on laboratory configurations and environments, and often fail to accurately reflect the actual conditions of various component characteristics (such as conduction, energy loss, and thermal impedance) in actual applications. In contrast, SSPMG's functionality is based on ON Semiconductor's Physically Scalable SPICE (Simulation Program Focused on Integrated Circuits) model, which is rooted in semiconductor physics and actual process variations in component manufacturing, and can more accurately reflect the performance of components in circuits.
"Using SSPMG, ON Semiconductor customers can generate system-level PLECS models tailored to their specific power applications, without being constrained by lengthy and costly manufacturing cycles, and can virtually develop and optimize complete power systems, significantly reducing time to market," said Dr. James Victory, Modeling and Simulation Solutions Fellow at ON Semiconductor's Power Solutions Group.
"With Würth Elektronik's SPICE model database seamlessly integrated into ON Semiconductor's SSPMG, design engineers can now select ON Semiconductor active components and Würth Elektronik's passive components for their applications and generate more accurate switching loss models. Together, we are creating a path to first-time-right and optimized system designs for our mutual customers."
Customers can download the SSPMG loss models and use them in their proprietary simulation platforms or upload them to ON Semiconductor's industry-leading Elite Power Simulation Tool (EPS). The EPS provides customers with direct demonstration of the performance of circuit topologies built using devices such as ON Semiconductor’s EliteSiC family, PowerTrench® T10 MOSFETs, FS7 IGBTs, and Intelligent Power Modules (IPMs).
